Concentrated ore, containing over 90% molybdenite, arrives daily by truck from Thompson Creek Mine near Clayton, Idaho. Currently, Langeloth Metallurgical Company operates three Nichols-Herreshoff multiple hearth roasters, which have combined daily capacity of 90,000 lb (~41,000 kg) of molybdenum. It is in these roasters that the concentrate (MoS2) is converted to technical grade molybdic oxide (MoO3). The finished product contains less than 0.1% sulfur. |
